At First Hand Education we offer both day and residential camps for children based on the simple idea that the best way to learn something is by doing it! We think that hands-on activities are also fun activities, so you might find us gathering seeds in the woods in autumn, exploring a magnificent castle in winter, feeding lambs in spring or fishing for trout in summer.
Our unique programmes follow seasonal themes which provide the framework for children to ask big questions and make important connections. To help make these links, the children learn a musical accompaniment that tells the story of the week, which they then share in a vibrant and celebratory performance for their parents and friends on Friday.

Monday 20th
- FUNGI FORAY -
Let’s glide over to ancient Oxleas Woods to discover whats growing in the changing autumn landscape with a workshop led by toadstool expert and all-round 'Fungi To Be With', Andy Overall. After that we’ll take your finds to the base to make something yummy!
Thursday 23rd
-CHANGES ON
THE FARM -
Spend the morning in the base transforming some natural ingredients into a beautiful candle. Become a junior master chef, then take part in a workshop of enchanting dance and marvellous music in preparation for Friday's big performance.
Let's start the week off with a trip to Hewitts PYO Farm where we'll be on the hunt for the last of the season's fruit and veg. Back at the base we we will learn how to preserve our treasures with a pickling workshop.

- FIRST HAND FRIDAY! -
Spend the day at the base, you'll make your own lunch using some of that veg you've picked from the farm! Then it is time to ready the stage before sharing our fantastic adventures through drama, art and celebratory song for the parents.
We're off to Woodlands Farm to find out how farmers prepare for autumn. Be guided on a foraging walk along the hedgerow and find something tasty to turn into a fresh juice or yummy jam for winter store .
